Medal display guide

Frame, hanger or display case?

A medal hanger holds many medals for little money, but they hang in the open: they gather dust, scratch against each other and the ribbons fade.

A display case protects a whole collection, but takes up a shelf and turns every medal into one of many.

A medal frame gives one medal the attention it earned: behind glass, against a calm background, with the result written below it. Most athletes frame their best results and keep the rest on a hanger.

  • HangerMany medals, open to dust and light.
  • Display caseProtected, but one of many.
  • FrameOne medal, behind glass, with its story engraved.

Keep your medals looking new.

Medals are made of plated metal and printed ribbon. Light, dust and humidity slowly wear them down. Hang them on an inside wall, out of direct sunlight, not in a bathroom or above a radiator. Behind glass, dust and fingers stay away.

Planning a medal wall? Start with one frame at eye level and add the next ones beside it, with the same space between them.

  • Out of direct sunlightSunlight fades ribbons in a few summers.
  • Away from humidity and heatNo bathroom, no spot above a radiator.
  • Behind glassNo dust, no fingerprints, no scratches.

Questions about displaying medals.

How do I keep my medals from tarnishing?

Keep them dry, out of direct sunlight and away from fingerprints. Behind glass they collect no dust and the ribbon keeps its colour longer.

Which medals should I frame?

The ones with a story: a first title, a championship, a comeback or your last match. Many athletes frame one medal per season and build a medal wall over the years.

What should I engrave below a medal?

Two short lines work best: the result and event on line one, for example "Gold - European Championships 2025", and the name on line two. Up to 30 characters per line.
